Common eSewa scams in Nepal

⚠
Fake cashback/prize messages. "You won Rs 50,000 from eSewa! Click here to claim." eSewa never sends prize links via SMS. These steal your login credentials.
⚠
OTP/PIN sharing tricks. Someone calls pretending to be eSewa support and asks for your PIN or OTP "to verify your account." eSewa will never ask for your PIN by phone.
⚠
Fake payment screenshots. A buyer shows a fake eSewa transfer screenshot as proof of payment. Always verify in your eSewa app before releasing goods.
⚠
QR code scams. Scammers send a QR code claiming "scan to receive money." Scanning it actually sends money FROM your account. Never scan QR codes from strangers.
⚠
Fake eSewa apps. Counterfeit apps on unofficial stores steal your credentials when you log in. Only download eSewa from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Protect yourself going forward
